If there ever was a textbook example of how to put social media marketing to work for your business, Dorado in Brookline wins the prize hands down. Ever since Raye and I discovered that Cafe D in Jamaica Plain had closed and we began our search for Doug and began following him on Twitter as he went though the process of opening up Dorado, I've been thrilled to see how (from a consumer viewpoint) this has played out.

First, I was encouraged to sign up for his email list (from Twitter), then (as a result of another Tweet) I was among those who sampled the excellent food on opening day. Then, as the weather became cold, I was drawn in again by a Tweet about "Free fish taco with cup of Taco Soup if you mention you heard about it on Twitter".

Then came the Facebook Fan Page (I think I was the 3rd 'fan'). The most recent stroke of genius is using the Fan Page to announce and register guests for an customer appreciation event. The fact that I haven't gained any weight since June speaks to the quality of the food; guilt free dining, cool!

Have you heard of the Kindle? It’s Amazon.com’s answer to digital books. It’s essentially a tool to store thousands of books, magazines, and newspapers on one small device. However, the Kindle does more than simply store books it is also a reader. Yes, instead of filling up your home with books, you can store an entire library on a device so small you can carry it in your purse.

Now the Kindle isn’t the only digital reader available however it is the best selling reader. That being said, you might want to know what it is capable of. The Kindle is about 1/3 of an inch and weighs a mere 10.2 ounces. It also offers 3G wireless, which is great because you don’t have to hook up to a PC to download a book and there are no monthly service fees to utilize the 3G wireless.

Using the Kindle

One of the little known facts about using a Kindle is that you can access the first chapter of a book for free. If you decide you want to continue reading the book, most books cost around $9.99.

Your Kindle gives you the ability to search the Kindle Store or download via Amazon.com. If you have 1-Click payments set up then this really is a quick and easy process.

Your Kindle also gives you the ability to listen to your books with a voice to text option. This is a feature that the publisher can turn on or off. This means not all books have this feature available however, when they do, it can be a great way to access material. And your Kindle comes with a headphone jack so you can listen privately.

The Kindle manages your content by organizing it into the following categories:

* Kindle Books, organized by title and author.

* Periodicals, which includes newspapers and magazines and is sorted by most recent first.

* Blogs show up on your home screen like books with the most recent post showing.

* Audio books also appear similar to books but are labeled audio books

* Personal Documents like your own downloaded ebooks also show up on your home screen.

Each document also shows your progress in the book and picks up right where you left off so you can’t lose your place!

You can also listen to music on your Kindle while you read and you can highlight text and add notes to the books and materials you are reading.

The Kindle can be an extremely useful tool. You can take it to the beach to read a juicy novel or you can store your non-fiction text on it for your next project. It’s a fantastic way to store all your favorite books and future favorite books in one location.
