One of the best ways to increase the income-generation potential of your small business is to utilize video marketing tactics. There are multiple ways to go about this, and you should be aware of all the possibilities and options that are available to you.

Like many entrepreneurs, you may choose to make your videos on your own and record with anything from an HD video camera to a mobile phone camera. While you may not get the most professional look doing it yourself, it can be a quick and inexpensive way to make a video to promote your products or services in a visual way that tends to engage audiences more so than text.

The Benefits of Using Videos for Small Business Promotion and Marketing

The main benefit of this marketing method is its ability to draw the attention of people who search for information, products, or services online. When using search engines, many results come up and, because of the sheer number of website content competing for the same keywords, it would definitely be much easier for you to get your videos to appear in the first pages of search engine results than your text content. Furthermore, results that display videos are much more likely to get clicked by your target audience.

Including a video on your website basically works the same way. When your audiences have the option between reading a few paragraphs describing a product and watching a 3-5 minute video with the same information, you can be confident that most will choose the latter.

How Small Business Owners Can Engage Through Video Marketing

Videos can be used to make commercials, blog entries, or even success stories for a product you are trying to promote. You can also make video for PR purposes. These may include interviews, news reports, or corporate statements from executives. Whatever type of video you decide to make, you will be able to count on the fact that video marketing is much more stimulating than publishing a text-heavy promotional piece.

Upon filming, simple editing on any video editor can help you finalize your content. After that, you should be ready to publish your video online. Apart from placing them on your own online assets (i.e. websites, blogs, etc.), you should take the time to publish them on video sharing sites to gain maximum viewership. Because of its sheer number of users, YouTube is certainly one of the best sites to use for this purpose. Apart from it being completely free of charge, it automatically provides tools and other functions that make it easy for your audiences and yourself to share your video.

Video marketing is definitely an extremely effective way of convincing audiences to purchase a product or avail of a service. The fact of the matter is that, when people see something for themselves in the form of a video, it makes a much deeper, long-lasting impact than words on a screen or even a photograph. You, as a business owner, should consider using video marketing tactics to your advantage, simply because it is one of the best ways to promote products or services online.

If your marketing campaign just isn’t working, or you’re just getting started, take a long look at what you’re trying to do. Is it exciting? Is it eye catching? Is it unique? If not, you’re campaign is likely too bland to get anywhere. It used to be that simply advertising your business could get you more than enough customers, but this is normally no longer the case. Look around you. There are advertisements EVERYWHERE.

There are commercials, print ads, billboards; your mind is overrun with images every day. And if you run the same old marketing campaign, you’re just going to blend in with everyone else. If you want to get business, you need to get noticed, which means you need to stand out from the crowd. And just being good at what you do is probably not enough to get that done.

The trick to getting noticed is being creative. It may be how you advertise, what your ads look like, or the deal or gimmick you’re offering. Whatever it is, something has to stand out if you want to get noticed. Coming up with a great idea doesn’t always happen in an instant. It takes thinking, research, and lots of brainstorming. Whether it’s taking a few days to work on it, or simply setting aside some time at the end of every day, you have to put some oomph behind it if you want to get results.

Believe it or not, while it may take some creativity and crazy thinking, you may find that the crazy thinking has already been done for you.

An example? Instead of sending out a boring old mailer, there are companies that make unique mailers like messages in a bottle and coconuts. Sure, other people have access to buy this stuff and use it too, but if you’re doing a mailing campaign, what are the changes you’re competing in the same market with someone who uses the same product? Slim to none.

Plus, if you get two coconuts in the mail, are you really going to read what’s inside one and ignore the other?

When it comes to marketing, flashy isn’t always better. Sure, you don’t want to be boring and blend in, but the key to standing out isn’t different fonts, bright colors, or making claims you can’t back up or keep.

The real key is being unique and different. Often a simple eye-drawing headline is enough to get people to notice your ad, catching their attention without blinding the customer. People want to do business with someone they can trust, not just someone who can yell the loudest.

While it may take effort and some amount of investment, if you come up with a good marketing campaign, the end results will likely be more than worth the effort.

Everyone, everywhere, has a reputation. This could be an individual or a business one; it doesn’t matter. What does matter is that you know what your reputation is. Is it good, or are there some black marks there lurking about? Maybe you’ve had a horrible reputation in the past and are trying to change this into a good reputation. These are all possible scenarios.

Some people may wonder what the quality of their reputation has to do with anything. Reputation can make or break a person’s individual being or a company’s business. The better the reputation, the more people and consumers alike will respond positively.

In the ways of the consumer this can be construed as them being a repeat customer. A repeat customer has formed a union, a loyalty to the particular business based upon their previous experiences there. The better the experience, the more profitable it is for everyone and everything involved.

If an individual’s reputation is poor, then there is a lack of trust from those around him. People who feel this lack of trust believe they cannot rely on you; these same thoughts and emotions are just as prevalent in a consumer world. You just may not see them as clearly because, once a dissatisfied customer leaves, there is the chance that you won’t see them again.

A company’s reputation can be partially judged by searching the internet and seeing what people have to say. Checking with the Better Business Bureau or Chamber of Commerce are also very good ways to determine company reliability. What would you think if you saw a construction vehicle, parked at a bar late into the night? Would you wonder about the quality of their work or their reliability, not only as an individual but as an employee? Many companies have strict policies re the use of a company vehicle, and reputation plays a big part in the reason for this.

Another form of reputation is how you may stand out against your competitors or other individuals. The more you stand out in a positive aspect, the more you are positively noticed. The more positive notices you generate, the more business you generate. This simple idea works in all walks of life, in numerous situations.

I would rather go to a company that has a good reputation, even if I will spend more, rather than experience bad service elsewhere. This is also true in daily life; if help is something I need from an individual, I am not just going to go across the street and ask for help. No, I will think about those I know that could help and would be willing to help. Good help, attitude, service, ethics, all win in the end – making more happy people.

So you want to start an Internet business? You probably want to put together a web-based store or use a drop shipment company to start and/or supplement your beginnings of this entrepreneurial pursuit. What you are going to sell and how are big questions.

In deciding which products to sell one must look objectively at the current market, the changing trends and the availability of products. Many items that can be found by going to your local store are not items that will successfully sell online. Why? It is a matter of convenience. No hassles of internet shopping, no shipping fees. No delayed deliveries because of the “We do not ship to PO Boxes” not being read. No chance of items becoming lost during the transit time. Items that can be found readily in town, offer the satisfaction of immediate gratification.

A good idea is to choose products that are not currently the hot item on the market, as the bigger conglomerates will already offer these items at a cost to the consumer that is cheaper than yours – simply because they can buy in bulk, whereas you may not be able to. Successful Internet sales are full of items of special orders and hard-to-find items, such as a specific style of clothing.

Successful Internet sellers and resellers do research into market trends. What sold yesterday in the “town & convenience” market may now sell well on the internet as it becomes less and less available in the quick stop shopping mode. A good researcher will include surveying individual geographical areas to see what is available and what isn’t and choosing their products accordingly.

Lastly, keep in mind that just because you or a few of your friends may like a specific item does not mean a bunch of consumers will share your views. Cater to consumer trends, lack of availability, specialized products and the old standby of oldies but goodies, and your Internet business should do well. You will be constantly changing inventory so be prepared and watch, closely, all the factors that come into play with consumer purchases.

Whether you are in a full blown brick and mortar business, operating a business out of your home, or maybe a traveling salesperson, you will have customers, business associates and various other contacts. And like the rest of us, you will need to have access to their contact information. This information can and will be anything from a simple phone number to complete mailing addresses, fax numbers and maybe certain dates. If you have it written down, chances are it is important.

My question is, where do you keep this information? On your cell phone, PDA, computer, on a notepad, maybe even in a camera if there are pictures? There are many places in which to keep information and considering today’s technology, many people choose an electronic device in which to store their pertinent information.

Wherever you keep it, there is one hugely important rule when obtaining, storing and maintaining this information: Back it up! I know people who are freelance writers and photographers, and those same people have lost a majority of their information at one time or another. They wake up, turn on their computer or other electronic device and see that it is crashing or has crashed. Imagine the stress they feel when they realize that all their information could be lost.

There are many ways to avoid this – maybe not the crash necessarily, but the loss of data. All you has to do is simply have a backup procedure on a regular basis, and chances are you will lose nothing – or if you do, the impact will be minimal. Alternative backup is available in many forms – using CDs to copy, using an online storage facility, or using an email service and sending all these items to yourself.

This email trick is one I use for information that is not content sensitive. In managing customer data, keep in mind organizational skills and know what content is sensitive. Having an organized system will alleviate a lot of time looking for information. If there are several people who use the same information, a plan needs to be in place in case someone goes looking for what you have; if they can’t find it, at least they would know where to look.

Maybe this is something as simple as a sign out sheet. If using a database program, go through this database every couple of weeks and update, delete or add to the information that you already have. In doing this, you can take outdated information away and update information where necessary, which allows more accessibility for others.

Lastly, keep your information secure. You can use the services of an outsourced company to keep your records or keep them yourself but either way, keep your information safe from being stolen. Don’t leave information just lying around. Don’t leave it in your car if you can help it; people break in. Don’t leave sensitive information in your email or just in a simple saved file within your computer. Things get stolen and hacked into.

By using proper security within your database management as well as good organizational skills, you will not only save time, prevent losses and maintain security. You will also be much happier when you are on the go and you need information in a hurry.

Every computer needs to be backed up at least occasionally. It is preferable that an actual backup schedule is in place. If documents have been lost in a crash and you're trying to get your computer back to normal, having your files backed up can save valuable time and critical information, and can greatly reduce stress. Too many times one will never fully recover from a computer crash if there is not a backup done of pertinent files.

Backing up a computer is the means of saving important information elsewhere other than on your hard drive. If you do this and your computer crashes, you haven’t lost the files – you also have them in an additional and secured storage. This can save you from hours or even days of frustrating emotions and avoid a feeling of work not being accomplished and time loss. In extreme cases it may even prevent one from losing their job.

There are many forms and ways to backup your hard drive information, no matter what the content is. The use of external media such as CDs, DVDs, and zip drives are popular and fairly secure. In today’s technology a lot of information can be put on to external media and be quite portable. Another option of where to back up files is an online storage facility that only you or someone who you authorize has access to. One big pro about online facilities is that there is no need to carry external media and your documents can be accessed anywhere at any time. Online data storage is considered to be the most secure form of storage.

The type of data that gets backed up varies from entity to entity. The general rule of thumb is to back up your important files first. Whether you are using media or online data storage, it is highly recommended that a brief title description of a group of files is aptly named and dated. This will make it easier to know where specific documents are, as well as ensure easier retrieval.

The hows of backing up depend on what you are backing your files onto. Almost all computers today have a built-in program or function that will walk you through the use of external media. These are usually accessed from your system tools option. Often times, just the inserting of media storage will prompt you and ask what you would like to do, with backing up as an option. Online data storages offer an upload function. Either way, there are simple steps to follow for any of the options you choose.

Please don’t waste your valuable time or lose important information. Take the time to explore the backup options available to you and choose the one that will work the best for your situation. You won’t regret it, especially when the computer crashes next. Here's the backup system I have used for almost 4 years now.
